Hosting covers all services required for the smooth running of the website: from installation at our state-of-the-art data center, to the maintenance of the entire server infrastructure.
Hosting includes the following services:
1GB memory for your data
20 personal email addresses
Effective virus protection and Spam filter
POP, IMAP and extensive web mail
Data security and monitoring
Our server infrastructure consists of a series of IBM Blade servers, each with two hard drives in a RAID network. Two Intel Xeon processors with 8GB RAM per server provide the speed required.
Highly specialized open source software is used to ensure the smooth running of the server:
Debian Linux
Apache 2
Squeak VM
Nagios (monitoring)
Munin (server statistics)
The powerful connection is simultaneously carried out by a series of carriers and ISPs and the SwissIX national peering point, with over 70 members. The bandwidth achieved is over 1000 Mbit/s.

Our efficient hosting center is located at the Colobern data center in the Längasse district of Bern, Switzerland.
Colobern by NTS AG runs the only carrier-neutral data centre in Espace Mittelland.
During heating periods, the accumulated waste heat from the air conditioning system is delivered directly to the heating system at the Bern Free High School. This saved 25,000 litres of heating oil in the winter of 2006/2007.
Our hosting centre offers optimal conditions for running high-availability servers and applications:
Powerful air conditioning equipment
Electronically monitored access system
Multiple backup Internet connections
In-house emergency power generator
Latest fire detection and gas extinguisher equipment
Daily data backups at off-peak times. Backed-up data are stored at two decentralized locations, and quickly available. We can therefore guarantee to rebuild the whole service very quickly in case of unforeseen events.
Fully automated monitoring covers all servers and applications at the hosting center. If any problems arise, our service team is notified immediately by email and text message. This means we can react very quickly to system breakdowns.
